A Sip Back in Time

Let's embark on a journey through the annals of history, where Riesling reigns supreme. Originating in the picturesque vineyards of the Rhine region in Germany, Riesling has a lineage that dates back to the 15th century. It's a grape with a story as rich and complex as the wine it produces – a true testament to the artistry of winemaking.

What to expect from a Riesling

Now, let's talk about what really matters – the taste. Riesling is like a symphony in a glass, with each sip offering a harmonious blend of fruit, acidity, and minerality. Picture yourself strolling through a sun-drenched orchard, biting into a perfectly ripe peach or apple – that's the essence of Riesling.

From bone-dry to lusciously sweet, Riesling runs the gamut of styles, catering to every palate. You'll find notes of citrus, green apple, honey, and even a hint of petrol in some aged varieties. It's a wine that evolves with time, revealing new layers of complexity with each passing year.

Our 2023 Old Vine Riesling

Whimsical, Vibrant, and Zesty, the 2023 Riesling is the first of our Old Vine Collection. Sourced from 40-year-old Riverland vines, this handcrafted gem delights with aromas of fresh lime and sea spray, whilst fruitful notes of yellow grapefruit, crisp green apple, lively lemon and lime playfully dance on the palate.

Aged on lees for complexity and character, our expression of the classic Riesling offers a delightful mouthfeel and natural acidity, making it the ideal partner for spicy cuisines, seafood, or just a romantic accompaniment.

Viticulture & Winemaking

In the quiet embrace of the vineyard, the story of our Old Vine Collection unfolds. Weathered by time, these old vines tell a tale of resilience and wisdom. For our 2023 Old Vine Riesling, we have sourced grapes from 40-year-old vines from premium South Australian Riverland Vineyards.

Ancient red soils that run along the Murray are largely composed of clay, sand, and limestone particles. With its warm, dry climate and unique terroir, the conditions throughout the Riverland produce fruit of high quality, in turn creating truly unique wines of outstanding calibre.

After careful harvesting from our 40-year-old Riverland vines, the grapes are crushed, destemmed, and aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve the Riesling's crisp and vibrant character. Our Old Vine Riesling deviates from convention by spending nearly 7 months resting on lees, a method that adds a layer of complexity and fullness to the wine's palate. This process elevates the wine beyond the traditional light and crisp profile, resulting in a Riesling that harmoniously combines the energy of its varietal character with nuanced depth.

Riesling & Food

Now, let's talk about the magic of food pairing. Riesling is the ultimate culinary chameleon, effortlessly complementing a wide range of dishes. From spicy Thai curry to delicate seafood, this wine can hold its own against any flavour profile.

Picture this: a zesty glass of Riesling alongside a platter of fresh oysters, the briny sweetness of the seafood perfectly offset by the wine's crisp acidity. Or perhaps a spicy Szechuan stir-fry, where the wine's fruity notes provide a refreshing contrast to the heat of the dish. Whether you're dining al fresco or cozying up indoors, Riesling is the perfect companion for any occasion.
