2007 Granite Belt Grenache

Tasting Notes

Black pepper and dark cherry aromas deliver an inviting nose.  The wine was matured in used French oak barriques to allow the full expression of the spicy pepper and confectionary characteristics on the palate.

$22.00 per bottle

Vineyard Location and Condition

The fruit for this wine was grown by Davydd and Cheryl Westlake at Campbell's Vineyard in the Ballandean District of the Granite Belt.  Grenache, once one of the most widely grown variteities in Australia, is now enjoying renew popularity.

The Granite Belt is situated on the Great Dividing Range 850m above sea level and 95 km inland from the coast. The winters are cold and frosty and summers warm producing a continental climate. Most of the region's rainfall comes in spring feeding the growing buds and shoots. The soil is largely composed of granite, somewhat on the acidic side and is very free draining.
