BRONZE MEDAL - 2010 CAIRNS SHOW WINE AWARDS
Dark cherry and raspberry aromas combine on the nose while supple tannins meld with rich red cherry and plum flavours to provide a generous mouthfeel. This wine will develop rich fruit cake characteristics over the coming years.
The fruit for our 2008 Merlot was grown by Davydd and Cheryl Westlake near the township of Ballandean in the Granite Belt which is situated on the Great Dividing Range 850m above sea level and 95 km inland from the coast. The winters are cold and frosty and summers warm producing a continental climate. Most of the region's rainfall comes in spring feeding the growing buds and shoots. The soil is largely composed of granite, somewhat on the acidic side and is very free draining.
